WHY HILLTOP?
Many members cite Hilltop as one of their favorite and most formative experiences as an undergraduate at Georgetown University. Along with the unparalleled experience of working with some of the nation's leading nonprofits, members have access to exclusive training sessions and networking opportunities with prestigious firms like McKinsey, Bain, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, Accenture, and PwC.
There are many opportunities to make an impact in Hilltop, from leading a project to reaching out to prospective clients to completing an independent internal project. Though our members have a diverse range of interests and professional inclinations, all of our members possess strong analytical and communication skills, demonstrate leadership throughout campus, and have a deep commitment to furthering social causes.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Team Players
Our teams are our strongest asset as an organization. We capitalize on the power of working together and look for new members who can both provide and listen to new perspectives.

Well-Rounded Perspectives
Both in and outside of projects, Hilltop is a second home at Georgetown for our members. Show us what you love outside of your professional and academic interests.

Dedication to our Mission
Hilltop Consultants was founded on the mission of providing remarkable strategies to nonprofits. We look for new members who are genuinely passionate about social impact.

Creativity
We pride ourselves in our ability to think outside the box to provide nonprofits with unique solutions. We look for people who can innovate to create new perspectives for clients.

Analytical Thinkers
The ability to logically structure and solve problems is key to our project work. Successful candidates can demonstrate their problem-solving skills and are eager to grow them.

Commitment
Hilltop expects new members to devote their time to the organization. We look for applicants who are willing to go above and beyond in both project work and in our community.
MEMBER INSIGHTS

“The hands-on experience in Hilltop is unmatched versus other clubs. Getting to work in a client-facing role right when I joined helped me build skills I wouldn’t have otherwise. The people in Hilltop are also incredible; I can confidently say they’re not just amazing consultants, but they’re also some of my best friends.”
Hunter Spillan
Former Director of Personnel, SFS '22
“The professional development at Hilltop has been incredible for me. I didn’t know much about what I wanted to do with my life coming into Georgetown but Hilltop surrounded me with people who helped me find opportunities. Even though I’m not pursuing consulting, I can confidently say I got the most support through Hilltop.”
Kaylin Hu
Former Director of External Outreach, MSB '22

“I think Hilltop’s community is unique because our members aren’t just in the club to build career skills, it’s an environment that’s filled with fun-loving and intellectually curious people who are passionate about social change. Getting the opportunity to deliver meaningful insights for nonprofit organizations that are changing the world is something Hilltop offers that other clubs don’t, especially for freshmen.”

FAQs
-
Do I need any prior consulting experience to be in Hilltop? Most certainly not! Truthfully, we expect candidates not to have any prior consulting experience and many of Hilltop’s members didn’t even know what consulting was when applying.
-
Is Hilltop only for students in the McDonough School of Business? Not at all. About 30% of Hilltop’s members are in the MSB and Hilltop has representation from all four undergraduate schools. Learn more about some of our consultants here.
-
I've applied to Hilltop before. Can I apply again?Yes and we highly encourage you to do so. Several members of our organization were not accepted the first or even second time they applied to Hilltop.
-
I don’t want to pursue consulting long-term. Is Hilltop still a good fit for me?Definitely! Whether you’re interested in working with nonprofits or simply want to improve your research and problem solving skills, Hilltop can provide you with a wealth of experience. Plenty of Hilltop members pursue careers outside of consulting including investment banking, tech, nonprofit work, government, and a variety of other fields.
-
What does integration, both professionally and socially look like in Hilltop?"Work-wise, your first few weeks in Hilltop will include attending our new member bootcamp and series of skills-based trainings. These will include modules on the basics of project work such as research, speaking to clients, and slide-making. That being said, we as an organization truly believe in learning on the job. For this reason, we staff all first semester consultants on projects where you’ll receive tons of mentorship from your Board Mentors, Project Manager, and Senior Consultant. Socially, we strive to make your first semester in Hilltop as welcoming as possible. Every new member is paired up with two buddies, one from our Board of Directors and a second or third semester consultant. Your first week will include bonding events with your hiring class and the board and culminates in our Welcome Party where you get to meet our entire membership. We also host a number of social events ranging from more casual outings to our annual retreat in Castleton, Virginia.

How do I prepare for the case interview? The case interview is a chance for you to showcase your problem solving and analytical thinking skills. It will involve us presenting you with a situation similar to what you would see on a Hilltop project team and you walking us through how you’d tackle the issue. While this is often the most daunting part of our application process, almost all of our members have zero prior experience with casing before the interview. There is no need to seek out any resources used in the professional consulting recruiting process. To prepare, we recommend practicing thinking out loud, structuring your thoughts in a logical fashion, and basic arithmetic. We care less about whether you get the correct answer and much more about your thought process. Every semester, we host a case workshop for candidates selected for an interview and you can also access some example cases here.
